Our goal is to partner with global organisations to donate 1 million PicSeePal units to individuals in need.
“APicseepal is exactly the kind of low tech device which could help many people with their right to communicate - one of the most overlooked rights in today's world.”Weh Yeoh Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2019 | Founder OIC Cambodia, Co-Founder Happy Kids Clinic and Umbo | TEDx speaker. Australia
“As a speech-language pathologist who has provided AAC training and support to numerous organizations abroad, there is an overwhelming need for a universal low-tech AAC option. Picseepal provides an immediate solution to a variety of populations in need of communication support. This product and company's mission show promise for our global AAC community.”Rachel Madel M.A., CCC- SLP (AAC Expert & host of the Talking with Tech Podcast
“PicSeePal's vision and it's user friendly nature as a low tech communication tool, demonstrates the ability to cross barriers of culture, language and disability. This shows the potential to collaboratively create a positive and lasting social impact within communities”Nichols Pakkiam (Senior Speech and Language Pathologist, Practice Manager), The Voice Within Therapy Centre, Australia
As known, individuals on the autism spectrum and with developmental disorders struggle with various forms of communication and in expressing themselves effectively. This leads to frustration – not only from them, but also from the loved ones around them who are unable to understand their needs. In some areas of Kenya, this leads to stigma associated with myths and misconceptions around the disorders and isolation or even abuse of these individuals in some cases. Kaizora Foundation strives to create awareness around these disorders and do what it takes to help improve the lives of these individuals and their families. By obtaining the PicseePal devices, we will have a way to break through some of these myths and misconceptions by educating the families and giving the affected individuals a way to communicate – to prove that they have something to say, they are so much more capable than people assume when they don’t have a voice! This realization will help break through the stigma and encourage more people to reach out and help these individuals and to try understand them better. By giving them a voice, we better our own understanding.Pooja Panesar, Board Certified Behaviour Analyst, Kaizora Centre for Neurodevelopmental Therapies, Nairobi.
“As a professional that travels the globe working with special needs communities, I am always aware of how in our complex world of technology, it is often the simple tools that work and are sustainable and approachable. PicSeePal is a thoughtful tool that is intelligently designed for immediate success and use. Thinking through resources that are available in many communities, it provides a simple, durable, and flexible tool to work with such a wide variety of populations. Whether a support to a higher tech system or as a stand-alone device, the PicSeePal adds a tremendous voice to the global AAC community”Dan Phillips is a speech pathologist/assistive technology specialist and the founder and director of the Tech Resource Center Marin, co-founder of the Nika Project
“In every part of the world where we find people, we find people who are unable to speak as well as those whose natural speech does not meet their communication needs. Thankfully, awareness of the need for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) options for those who have difficulty communicating is on the rise. The most publicised types of AAC are “cool” high-tech computer or tablet-based options. Despite growth in awareness, there continues to be a dire need for access to AAC options globally, particularly in rural, secluded, and impoverished areas of the world. While high tech AAC options are excellent for many, they are not always appropriate nor are they accessible to all who need them. It is therefore essential that affordable technology-free AAC options be created and made available globally, so ALL individuals will have the tools to fulfil one of the most basic human needs…the need to communicate and connect with others.”Lauren S. Enders, MA, CCC-SLP
Picseepal was originally developed in response to the need for a low-cost, durable AAC solution, which increased communication access for children with autism and developmental disabilities in Australia, the Pacific and Cambodia.
We quickly realised there was a global need for PicSeePal.
With the global challenge of Covid 19, the need for low-tech visual communication systems in hospitals especially, has reached a critical point. We are doing everything possible to get PicSeePal into the hands of those who need it. A growing team of parents, AAC users, therapists and educators agree that PicSeePal works across all settings, ages and abilities.
With your support the PicSeePal initiative will help millions of people.
