Who is Chris?
Before Chris McDonald ever stood in a classroom he was already working in the field. He worked as a personal carer for the Australian Quadriplegic Association, supported adults in group homes, and in 2002 completed an Honours degree with Distinction in Primary and Special Education at the University of Technology Sydney — writing his thesis on communication across educational and home settings.
That was the beginning. Since then he has spent 23 years teaching across preschool through to adult settings, working in four different special schools, and finding better ways to help students who have more to say than the systems around them allow.
PicSeePal has been a UNICEF Champion for Children since 2019, with projects including East Timor. PicSeePal works alongside The NIKA Project across multiple continents and is beginning a collaboration with the Global Autism Project.
He built PicSeePal because the gap he wrote about in 2002 still existed.

The obligation is clear. The solution hasn't been — until now.
Under IDEA (the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), US schools are legally required to provide AAC tools when a student's IEP identifies a communication need. ESSA reinforces this — access to communication is a right, not a waiting list item. PicSeePal doesn't replace high-tech AAC. It fills the gap immediately, affordably, and in a way that actively builds toward the communication goals your students deserve.
